Located in Massarelos, an area classified as Porto’s Historic Zone—UNESCO World Heritage—the residences suggest a unique lifestyle.
Perfectly integrated into the site’s natural and historical surroundings and oriented to the south, the Monchique residential complex stands along the banks of the Douro River. Blending with the river-dominated urban fabric, Monchique rises in three interconnected buildings around the chimney of the former sugar refinery—the formal symbol of the development—representing an ongoing dialogue between past and future, recognized for its significant heritage value.
Making the most of the terrain, the buildings were designed for maximum transparency in directions that follow the sun’s path, creating wide openings and outdoor areas facing the Douro. Occupying an area of 4,970 m² between Rua da Restauração and Rua de Monchique, the complex stands out for the singular character of each of its seventeen homes.
